

Mildred J. Romey, 80, Kansas City, Missouri, died at her home June 11, 2014. She was born February 24, 1934, in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduation from Basehor High School, Mildred worked for Kansas City Power & Light Company. She married Charles A. (Bud) Romey January 20, 1957. Shortly after their marriage Bud was drafted into the Army and Mildred joined him in France for two years. They enjoyed touring Europe during the time he was stationed overseas.
The couple returned to Kansas City and Mildred became a full-time mom who dedicated herself fully to her family. She also helped in the family business, Romey Electric Company, and later was a co-founder of Romey Enterprises, Inc.
For 26 years the family lived on their farm in Trimble, Missouri, until all their children were grown. During those years, Mildred enjoyed gardening and yard work. She was active in her parish, St. Ann’s in Plattsburg, and attended many, many sporting and school events for her children. She was also a long-time member of Sunnyside Circle.
In her retirement Mildred took up golf, which she loved and played as often as she could. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad, but her first love always remained her family that now included grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Gladstone from 1959-1976 and again from 2002-2014.
Mildred is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles (Bud) Romey; six children: Linda Romey, OSB, Erie, Pennsylvania, Steven Romey (Kathy), Kansas City, Richard Romey (Debbie), Leawood, Gary Romey (Kasumi), Narita, Japan, Cindy Romey, Marshall, Missouri, Robert Romey (Deidra), Kansas City; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Holly), Zachary, Nicholas, William, Paige, Alana, Kaylin, Sho, and three great-grandchildren, Kael, Kameron, and Kennedi. Her ninth grandchild is due in July in Japan. She also leaves four sisters, Helen McGraw, Rosalie Kelly, Elizabeth Stafford, Rita Crubel, and three brothers, William Nick, CSC, Joseph Nick, David Nick, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents William C. Nick and Helen Marie (Kobetitsch) Nick.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15, 6-8 p.m., Rosary 7:30 p.m. at McGilley Antioch Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, June 16, 11:00 a.m. St. Charles Borromeo Church, Gladstone, Missouri, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
