Milton Campbell Brown Sr.

Milton Campbell Brown Sr. was born on June 19, 1925, in Montserrat, Missouri, to Frankie Milton Brown and Mildred Ellen Brown. He lived a remarkable life defined by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love for family and community.

Milton cherished his childhood and the special bond he shared with his three sisters: Francis Estella Josephine Brown, Shirley Ellen Brown, and Edith Marie Brown. He attended Hubbard School from kindergarten through twelfth grade, where he developed lifelong friendships and a lasting appreciation for learning.

Following his graduation, Milton was drafted into the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during World War II. As a dedicated serviceman, he carried out his duties with honor, discipline, and integrity. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Victory Medal. Milton was honorably discharged on January 20, 1947, having exemplified the values of duty, humility, and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life.

Milton was a hardworking and versatile man who wore many hats throughout his lifetime. While he held numerous jobs and embraced many responsibilities, his greatest pride was being a father and grandfather. He believed in hard work, helping others, and seeing every task through to completion. His life was enriched by many relationships, and he built a large, loving family through his unwavering devotion and care. Though his journey was unique, his love for his children remained constant and sincere.

A gifted coach and respected ballplayer in the Negro Leagues, where he played for the Warrensburg Giants at 2nd base. Milton dedicated countless hours to mentoring and inspiring young athletes. He was known for sharing wisdom, discipline, encouragement, and love with generations of players. Beyond sports, Milton enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. He embraced life fully and found joy in the simple moments shared with those he loved.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie and Mildred Brown; his sisters, Francis Brown-Sweate, Shirley Brown-Harvey, and Edith Marie Brown; his sons, Ronnie Brown, Theodore “Teddy” Sweets, John Milton Brown, and Ennis Wayne Brown; his daughter, Sharon Brown; and his grandson, Derrick Brown. He was also preceded in death by his bonus children, Reva Henegar, Kelly Carleton, Norman Little, and Herbert Nelson.

On May 17, 2026, Milton peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Carolyn Delores Brown-Dunn, Marilyn Bonner, Michael Forbush (Linda), Wanda Richberg (Royce), Shirley Brown-Lambert (Earnest), Milton Campbell Brown Jr. (Rebecca), Marty Nicole Brown Conaty (Nick), and Levonda K. Shockley.

Milton's legacy continues through his 52 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his special niece, Dorothy Ann Sweate-Harris, his first cousin, Rachel Joyce Campbell-Garner who recently celebrated her 100th birthday and is the last surviving member of the Campbell family generation; daughters-in-love Joan Sweets and Charlotte Brown; bonus daughter JoeAnn Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and guidance.

Milton Campbell Brown Sr. will be remembered for his service, strength, wisdom, and enduring love. His legacy lives on in the generations he nurtured, the lives he influenced, and the family he cherished. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
