Myra Jane (Volk) Gray, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 1, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, to her proud parents, Edith and Lewis Vincent Volk.
Myra was a talented woman whose life was a testament to her passion to live her life. She was cherished by her family, including her son, Brian Durr and his wife Sheri, who remember her as a source of unwavering support. She was also a loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Alexis Durr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband John "Jack" Durr and her nephew, James Jones.
Myra is survived by her loving husband, Cecil Gray, who shared a lifetime of love and cherished moments with her. Cecil and Myra traveled countless miles in their RV seeing the sights all over the United States. They shared many fun times traveling the country with their Prairie Schooner friends.
Myra Jane is also survived by her sister, MerEdith Rissler, and her husband, Norm, as well as her brother, Lewis Volk, and his wife, Paula, niece, Marie and husband, Kevin Gilbertson and nephew Jason Rissler, step children, Gary Gray, Michael Gray and his wife, Donna, Roger Gray, Nancy Solem, and Karen McWhirt. Their shared memories will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Myra had a passion for sharing her artistic talents and creative spirit. For several years, she taught oil painting classes, inspiring others with her love for art. Her skill in oil painting, along with her talent for floral arrangements and interior decorating, brought beauty and joy to the lives of many. She also enjoyed sewing and had the remarkable ability to make most of her own wardrobe, a testament to her creativity and craftsmanship.
A Celebration Visitation for Myra's life will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Friends and family are invited to join in commemorating the beautiful life she lived and the memories she leaves behind.
Myra Jane Gray's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to inspire us.
