

Myral C. Coatney, D.O. passed away on Oct. 31, 2013 at The Villages of Jackson Creek. Visitation from 6 to 9pm on Tues., Nov. 5th at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit. Funeral service at the church 10am Wed. with graveside service following in Floral Hills Cemetery. Myral was born in Joplin, MO on November 27, 1931 where he lived until moving to Kansas City in 1951. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathy Surgery in 1955, now known as the Kansas City University of Medicine Biosciences. Myral was honored as Alumnus of the year in 1982 and was a past member of their board of Trustees President of the Alumni Association. He was certified in general medicine and practiced for 55 years before his retirement in 2010. He was passionate about family practice and was the youngest registered family practitioner in Kansas City for his first four years in practice. He delivered 4000 babies, including two by phone. Dr. Coatney was honored to serve as President of Missouri General Practitioners in 1969 & 1977. He was the Founder Chairman of the Department of General Practice of Osteopathic Hospital of KCMO for 8 years. He was also a past President of JCOA and was elected Chief of Staff in 1961 when the first Osteopathic Intensive Care Unit was established. In 1978 he was elected as the first Chief of Staff at Park Lane Medical Center. Myral was a life member of numerous state local Osteopathic associations and served as past President as well as being a member of the Boards of Trustees. He was a lifetime member of Blue Valley Kiwanis club of Kansas City and past Lt. Governor Governor of the Missouri/Arkansas Kiwanis District. Myral was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Thelma Bunn Coatney; his wife of 56 years, Billie and an infant son, Brett Randall. He is survived by two children, Gregory A. Coatney wife Deborah of KCMO Myra Ditsch husband, Robert of Indep., MO; 8 grandchildren, Lisa Snow, Sherry Valencia (Tony), Lindsey Foster (Adam), Joseph Coatney (Karena), Justin Coatney, Nicholas Coatney, Brett Coatney Benjamin Ditsch; 5 great grandchildren, Mary Snow, Anthony Michael Valencia, Libby Foster, Gabrielle Coatney soon-to-be-born Jack Foster.
