Nancy Elizabeth Coates, age 84, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on December 4, 2023, at home after a long battle with dementia. Nancy was born October 25, 1939 in Sedalia, Missouri. She graduated from Westport High School in 1957.
Nancy married Al Coates in 1964 and they remained married until his death in 1998. She was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and friend. Nancy had a warm smile and a wink for everyone who entered her home. Her friends and family treasured the time, laughter and wisdom shared around Nancy’s kitchen table.
Nancy enjoyed helping Al build and run Boots & Coates Bar & Grill, the family bar and restaurant. Nancy was an avid golfer and she and Al were long time members of Hillcrest Country Club. They loved to travel and played some of the most beautiful courses in the country. Nancy was a fan of the Chiefs and the Mizzou Tigers. She was devoted to her grandchildren and was the biggest fan at volleyball, basketball and baseball games and horse shows. Nancy was an animal lover and cared for every stray that crossed her path.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Coates, her parents, Champ & Helen Shepherd and her brother, Clark Shepherd. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Shafton (Alan) and her grandchildren, Ari and Charlotte Shafton.
