She was preceded in death by her parents, James Mills Jr. and Helen Mills, and her brother William Mills. Nancy grew up in Stanley, Kansas.
After graduating from Shawnee Mission High School, she attended Kansas State University and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She finished her academics at the Kansas City Art Institute with a degree in Design. Nancy married Glenn Langley and lived in Prairie Village, Kansas. She would later move to Kimberling City, Missouri to enjoy life at Table Rock Lake and begin a new chapter in banking. She returned to Olathe in 1992 to be near her family and work at Hillcrest Bank where she would eventually retire.
Nancy’s greatest joy was doing for others. Whether it was baking cookies, cake, candy or using her artistic talent to create Christmas ornaments and a wide variety of crafts, she enjoyed providing joy to others. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She was truly an ambassador of the Christmas spirit and shared her passion of the season with everyone she was acquainted with. Every gift required a handcrafted bow made from wire ribbon or it simply wasn’t complete.
She was a phenomenal seamstress who created quilts, clothes and costumes. She continued the tradition learned from her mother to can vegetables, make jams and jellies, and tend to a garden like the farm girl she was. Like her father, she had a soft spot for all animals and in particular her beloved Lucky. Until you knew her well, she presented a hard exterior that was just a façade to hide a soft vulnerable side. She enjoyed traveling to most of the major cities in the United States. Her most memorable travels were visiting nine countries in Europe.
She was known as “Mom L” and “Mrs. L” to the baseball teams she kept score for and football teams that she supported unconditionally. She was the mom that every player could talk to about anything. She would later unofficially adopt 65 sons in the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity in Manhattan, Kansas. She became the President of the TKE Moms Club to organize fundraising activities to update and remodel the common areas. Her kitchen was always open to all visitors that wandered from Manhattan to Kansas City.
A loving mother, she leaves her son Glen and daughter-in-law Anita of The Woodlands, TX; her granddaughter Shelby Wadsworth of Santa Clara, CA. She also leaves her former husband Glenn Langley of Palm Harbor, FL; her sister Barbara Adam Overland Park, KS; brother James Mills (Susan) of Stonewall, OK; sister-in-law Rochelle Silvers of Overland Park, KS; sister-in-law Judy Basnett of Collierville, TN; brother-in-law Les Langley of Wellington, KS; sister-in-law Gail Ammerman (Hobie) of Derby, KS; 12 nieces and nephews, and many friends that she extended her love and kindness to throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Dementia Society of America.
A Graveside Memorial Service for Nancy will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
