Nancy Stokes, 92, of Independence, MO passed away February 22, 2015. Nancy was born April 30, 1922 in Higginsville, MO the daughter of Alfred and Dona (Van Meter) Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Stokes, Sr., in 1988; her sister, Mary Lou Truitt in 2008, a brother, Alfred Cooper Jr., in 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Carmen Sue Ellis of Spring Hill, KS and Donna Rae Layton of Independence, MO; a son William E. Stokes, Jr., of Pflugerville, TX; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Nancy was a career employee of Southwestern Bell and AT&T. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a member of Eastgate Christian Church in Independence, MO for 58 years. Nancy was an adoring mother whose family was the center of her life and she instilled many qualities such as her Christian values, her work ethic and her love and generosity to others as well as a number of charities she supported.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 1 pm until service time at 2 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow. Condolences may be left at www.floralhillsfuneralhome.com.
