Sue was born March 29, 1931 in Pleasant Hill, MO. She graduated high school and went on to train as a comptometer operator. She traveled to California and worked in her trade for two years before returning to Kansas City. While working at Bendix, Sue met her husband of 55 years, Glenn Tehel. They married in 1953 and had six children which grew into quite a legacy. Sue became “Nannie” to 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and the list keeps growing.
In her later years, Sue held a variety of office positions in her local PEO organization and remained an active member of Church of the Nativity in Leawood, KS.
Sue will fondly be remembered as a tiny but “mighty” lady full of energy and compassion with a selfless nature. She touched many with her caring and consideration, whether it was a warm meal, a comforting call or an uplifting visit. One never walked away “hungry” when touched by Sue.
Her devotion to family morphed into skills she excelled in, some of which were vegetable canning, sewing, reupholstering/painting furniture and repurposing garage sale finds. She was engaged in upcycling long before it was a thing.
Her life and the way she lived was a wonderful role model for us all and we were blessed to have her in our lives.
Sue is survived by her brother Arlen (Betty) Mitchell and children Judy (Larry) Eros, Terry (Terry) Ayers, Glenna (Steve) Gaunt, Michelle (Dave) Talley, Lisa (Gregg) Smith and Bill (Misty) Tehel.
Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 AM January 11, 2020 at Church of the Nativity followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Private burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ozanam Home for Boys, 421 E. 137th St., Kansas City, MO 64145.
