Ned A. Eddy, Jr. was born June 13, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Ned and Julia Eddy, Sr. Ned attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. He was an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After college, Ned, Jr. joined the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. After his military service, Ned joined his father and uncles at Eddy Brothers, Inc. to begin his career as a leader in hospitality. Until 1962 he helped manage Eddys’ at 13th and Baltimore, Eddys’ at the Prom and a chain of five hotels along the Gulf Shores. In 1965 Ned, Jr., along with his father and brother opened a successful, quick service chain of restaurants across Kansas City known as Eddys’ Loaf ‘n Stein. During this time, the Eddy Brothers also began another corporation, Eddys’ Catering. During the 1970s Ned was chairman of the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau for two years, president of the Missouri Restaurant Association, on the Republican Steering Committee for the Republican National Convention of 1980, elected Restaurateur of the Year in 1977 by the Missouri Restaurant Association, and served as a Senior Vice President for Ducks Unlimited for eight years. Ned, Jr. remained active in the hospitality business through 2008 running the food and beverage operations at Arrowhead Stadium from 1981-94, operating all food/beverage and concession services for Bartle Hall Convention Center from 1995-04, and franchising Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits to the Kansas City market in 1985-present. Ned, Jr. was also an avid duck hunter in Mound City, Missouri and lifelong supporter of Ducks Unlimited.
Ned, Jr. is survived by his wife Sandra Eddy, his brother Jim Eddy and wife Fareda, his sister Dawn Rashid and husband Ken Rashid, his sister Sandra Eddy Huff, his three children Laura Vogt and husband Kevin Vogt, Ned Eddy III, Ryan Pierson and wife Alison, three grandchildren, Christian and Caroline Vogt and James Pierson.
Visitation will be at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th Street, Leawood, Kansas, Tuesday, November 5th, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Celebration of life immediately following at Hallbrook Country Club, 11200 Overbrook Road, Leawood, Kansas.
