Noelle C. Gilmore, 88, of Raytown, Missouri passed away July 26, 2021. She was born January 10, 1933 in Paris, France, the daughter of Georges and Francine Ciacnoghi. She was raised in Paris, France, and immigrated to the United States in 1955.
Noelle met her husband, Charles in Jefferson City, MO and they were married on June 30, 1956. They began married life in Kansas City, MO. The family lived in Phoenix, Hanford, CA, and Denver as Charles was transferred by the Post Office over the years. In addition to caring for her family and raising her daughters, Noelle worked as a French Language Instructor and translator for business professionals and private families.
Noelle was gracious, welcoming, and generous. Holding true to her French roots, whenever someone would stop by, she was quick to offer a bite to eat or a glass of wine to share. She had an engaging, effervescent personality and made long lasting friends wherever she went. She is remembered not only because of her French accent, but also because of her loving personality and warmth. She often spoke of her Paris home. Noelle was also proud of her Greek heritage. She made a special trip to Greece to visit the birthplace of her parents.
Having learned tailoring from her father and knitting from her mother, Noelle enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting and loved sharing her creations with family and friends. Many of her family and friends treasure their handmade items gifted from her. She had the rare ability to see a skein of yarn or bolt of cloth and envision stunning scarves, dresses, blouses, etc. Noelle was such a talented seamstress that she even made her daughter’s (Ellen) wedding dress!
Noelle loved to travel and made many trips with family and friends. Many of her family and friends have wonderful memories of their trips to Europe, especially France, with Noelle playing travel guide. Upon retirement, Noelle returned to Kansas City, MO. Not content to sit still, she volunteered at the Veteran’s Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza for many years while continuing to tutor French and work as a translator.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Costantin (Costa) and Philippe Ciacnoghi and her husband, Charles Ray Gilmore. Survivors include her daughters, Ellen Gilmore and Susan Gilmore (Barry); her grandchildren, Craig Schorling (Sarojini), Kristine Diebold (Scott) and Steven Loughrige; great grandchildren, Nithya Schorling, Tyler Schorling, Cooper Diebold and Olive Diebold. Noelle is also survived by her brother, Francois Carteron.
Her strong faith and love of God was with her always, and guided her throughout her whole life. Noelle was a longtime supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to VFW.org.
