Chris and I just heard about Nola. Please know you are in our prayers. We are so very sorry.  Nola was so energetic and fun!  I rarely saw her without a smile.  She will be truly missed.  Chris and Teresa Maag

I work for Mid-Continent Public Library at the Headquarters location.  I found out at work this morning, Friday the 23rd, about Nola's passing.  I am sorry for your loss.  She was a fun person to know.  She came to the Interlibrary Loan Department one day to learn what we do.  She had asked a few days before her training what she needed to bring.  Our boss laughed and told her chocolate was always good. Nola took her seriously and brought chocolate mint brownies!  And the day began.  She was so easy to work with and we had a fun day with her in our department. She will be missed by us.

Just found out about Nola.  I am so very sorry I could not come to the visitation or funeral.  She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. Always had a smile for everyone.  My thoughts and prayers and with you and your family.

I'm very sorry for your loss.  I went to grade school with Nola at St. Charles and then became reacquainted as adults when my  family and I moved to Parkville and joined St. Therese.  I think of her and our childhood each time I pass the "Macken" house on Shady Lane Drive.  Those memories will continue to live on.  Praying you and your family will find peace in the coming months with the memories she left with you.

What can one say at a time like this.  Such a shock to all who loved Nola.  I shall keep you all in my prayers and thoughts.  Nola will be remembered in my prayers in a special way.  She had a strong faith and wanted you kids to grow up strong in yours.

I was lucky enough to work at the Boardwalk branch of the library in my first managerial position. Nola was a huge part of a staff that was incredibly kind to me and easy to work with. Her laughter was infectious and I've never seen anyone who was better with kids. She will be missed.

Growing up 2 doors from the Mackens was like having a huge extended family.  I loved teasing Nola about the bright shade of lavender that filled her room, bright & beautiful as she was.  Nola will always be remembered with love.

I was saddened to hear of Nola's passing. I went to St Charles with Nola 1st-8th. We were really close in school as we shared the same birthday week. Nola on the 11th and I on the 14th. She always had a smile. I ran into her at the Kids repeat resale shop in Gladstone after my daughters were born. We talked and made so many plans to get reconnected. Opportunities lost and now a friendship lost. Praying for peace for all.

So sorry to hear of Nola's passing. My condolences to her family. She was a childhood friend of mine, & I am sure she loved being a grandmother. She always loved babies so much, was such a good reader, and so responsible, even as a child. We walked home from school together frequently. I will never forget how she stood up for me when I broke my arm at recess, and the nun on recess duty wouldn't let me go inside! She wrapped her arm around me & just took me in to Rosemary anyway, recognizing I wasn't crying wolf.

Nola's laughter was always  infectious and will never be forgotten. Long days and nights at the library were always made better by Nola's smile, her jokes, and her joy. She is greatly missed.

I used to play( living 2 houses away) with the Macken girls, including Nola. She always had more confidence than me. She was always so  Sweet. I will miss her too! So sorry for your alls loss, way too young! I will wear PURPLE tomorrow for Nola. Hugs!

I will always have fond memories of our families canoe trips with the Elmore's.  Nola was always so fun to be around. Always smiling and always laughing is the only way I will remember her. I want to share this memory, meeting Nola for the first time, I did know how she could dance so well in her red high heels, smile that smile, and make everyone feel so happy. During a break from the dance floor, I learned her love for children, animals and her garden. Such a nurturing, person, and sweet inside and out. Nola was the best at her story telling and sharing. I took a very shy little boy to her reading groups every week and she brought him out of his shell and he still remembers "story time" at the library with Ms. Nola. Very sad news. Much condolence to her family. I was in a youth group with Nola. 15 of us walked to Saint Joseph on Palm Sunday week-end A brainchild of Fr. Hawkins. I remember her as a sweet, decent kid.

Marc and Family, Nola, aka  my HOLA was one of my very best friends. I feel so blessed to have been such a big part of her life. Our lunches to Jason Deli will forever been in my heart. Her company and deep conversations with me by my poolside were the best. She always allowed me to come to your house at 6:00 a.m. (when she couldn't sleep) and she would have coffee ready for me.Her laughter when I couldn't figure out the drop box at Boardwalk was infectious. I will be wearing purple all week long in her honor.  She and I shared a lot of precious moments together. I will NEVER EVER forget her. Words are inadequate but I am so very sorry for your loss. Nola will be greatly missed. I chatted with her about a month ago, she told me she was enjoying her grandchildren so much. Nola was my son's teacher and every day he looked forward to seeing her.  He would talk about "Ola" reading to him.
