Nora May McClurg, 69, Platte City, MO passed peacefully into her heavenly home on Sunday, March 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was a faithful and loving mother, aunt, sister, nani, great-grandmother and teacher. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved caring for others and went above and beyond for her family.
Nora was born on July 2, 1953, to Walter and Fannie Welliver in Kansas City, Kansas. Nora graduated from Northeast High School in 1971. She received her undergraduate degree from Missouri Western State College and in 1985 earned her Master of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State University.
Nora spent her 30-year career as a teacher with the St. Joseph School District. She was blessed, as teaching was her dream job. She taught kindergarten at Webster Elementary, and the rest of her teaching career was spent teaching sixth and third grade at Hyde Elementary. Nora cherished kids. Nora was recognized as an excellent teacher and mentor to student teachers, new teachers, colleagues, and countless students.
Nora enjoyed summers off spending quality time with her girls and best friends at the lake or poolside. Nora loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener, canned delicious foods, and enjoyed fishing. Her impact on the world is much larger than this obituary can describe. She leaves a legacy of unwavering faith, strength, and immense love for her family. She was a strong believer in prayer and loved The Lord.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Francis and George. Survivors include her daughters, Tisha Vigliaturo-Milburn, Maria (Michael) Tabor, Elizabeth (Michael) Mitchell; 9 grandchildren (Mia, Dominic, Vincent, Gia, Anthony, Elizabeth, Dylan, Sisely, Jacob); 2 great-grandchildren (Emrys and Mila); nieces Renee Summy and Lynn Henderson; her best friends, Tom and Wanda Dulcan and their son, Matt; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., Friday, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Saint Joseph. In Nora’s honor, memorial gifts can be made to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church,1606 N Second St., Saint Joseph, MO, 64505.
