Norma was born on July 12, 1930, in Grenora, North Dakota, to John and Hazel (Oakes) Fremstad. She grew up in Hanks, North Dakota, until the age of 17. In 1948, she graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Washington. That same year, she moved to Independence, Missouri, where she would make her home for many years.
Norma married Jesse Glass on March 22, 1949. Later in life, she married Herbert Brown on October 7, 2017.
Norma devoted 30 years of her career to the Internal Revenue Service, working as a tax examiner until her retirement in 1993. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 77 years. She also enjoyed being part of the Four Seasons Senior Fellowship group at Raytown Christian Church for many years.
Family was especially important to Norma. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured the time she spent with those she loved. She had a great sense of humor and a wonderful ability to bring laughter and joy to those around her. Her family was a source of great happiness, and she cherished the many memories they made together.
Norma is survived by her three daughters: Cathy Shireman of Blue Springs, Missouri; Connie Stowell of Independence, Missouri; and Susan Barton (Rob) of Gilbert, Arizona.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kerry Shireman of Denver, Colorado; Kristin Hunt (Ryan) of Gilbert, Arizona; Kelly Heegn (Vinnie) of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Melissa Arenson (Matt) of Belton, Missouri; Tyler Barton of Blue Springs, Missouri; and Nicole Barton of Blue Springs, Missouri.
Her great-grandchildren include Evan McKee, Caden McKee, and Eily McKee, all of Gilbert, Arizona, and Connor Heegn of Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Norma is also survived by her sisters, Carol Jackson and Mary Mitchell (Don).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert N. Brown, her brothers, John Kermit Fremstad and Donald D. Fremstad, and her sisters, Olive Greve, Laurel Olson, Josie Haney, and Phyllis Reed.
Norma will be remembered for her strong faith, unwavering dedication to her family and great sense of humor. Her life was one of love, laughter, commitment, and cherished memories. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in the family and friendships she nurtured throughout her life.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
