Norman Stanley Witmer, Sr., 86, passed away April 8, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Entombment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raytown Christian Church or any veteran’s organization.
Stan was born May 5, 1928 in Joplin, MO, son of Clinton Corbin and Katie Jane (Shelton) Witmer. He had three brothers and four sisters with Everett Bruce Witmer as the last surviving sibling. He graduated in 1946 from Joplin High School. Stan married Virginia Lee Breeden. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War (50-52) as a medic. He was a member of Raytown Christian Church for over 50 years and served as a Deacon and a member of the H&H Sunday School class.
He was the owner of Abbot’s Furniture Refinishing & Upholstery, Inc. and was known in his business life as Mr. Abbot. Stan was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Order.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Virginia Witmer. He is survived by his three children Brenda, Norm and Dean, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
