She was born February 16, 1926 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Brilliant, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she spent two years studying music in Pittsburg. She married her high school sweetheart , Donald G. Deuvall, in 1946. After starting a family, she renewed her love of music as a soloist, choral director, and Director of Music for various churches and women’s groups.
As a married couple and growing family they moved often with Don’s career taking Dale & Brian from school to school and leaving Chloe to find new adventures in the music world.
They finally made it back to Kansas City in 1968. Chloe became a soloist and Choir Director at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park and then Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village.
In 1969, Chloe became the founding director of the Leawood Singers.( A part of the Leawood Women’s club.) The Leawood Singers performed 975 programs (yes, she counted them!) They provided musical programs in nursing homes, hospitals, women’s groups, and many organizations. When possible, they were paid for their performances and this money was donated to so many community needs. In 2016, after 47 years with the Leawood Singers, Chloe stepped down as the director.
Chloe was the Director of Music for Atonement Lutheran Church from 1977-1991. The many choirs that she conducted and programs she directed involved generations of families in the church. She was a valuable part of that growing music program. The year the church received a generous donation of handbells, Chloe had to get to work learning a new skill and teaching it to many choirs.
But her family fondly remembers the delicious desserts (everyone had their favorite) and the fabulous meals that she lovingly prepared. She honed her cooking and baking skills being involved in gourmet groups and taking cooking lessons.
Games played late into the evening left lasting memories of the laughter, the fun & the competition. But maybe it was Chloe’s love for the pool that everyone enjoyed the most. This was a swimming & diving family and pool time was a part of every summer occasion with Chloe. Her support of the arts world in Kansas City taught all of us to love the Symphony and the many theater opportunities…local & professional.
Derek, Nicole & Evan have such fond memories of Chloe being a part of their activities growing up. In her final days, she reminisced that she felt so lucky to be a part of their sports, music, & academic events.
Chloe was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G Deuvall, her parents Stanhope and Vivian Davis, her sister Char & brother-in-law George McKinstry, and her youngest son, Brian W Deuvall.
She is survived by her son, Dale D Deuvall, daughter-in-law, Debra J Deuvall, & her grandchildren, Derek Deuvall, Nicole Deuvall & Evan Deuvall. Chloe is also the great-grandmother to Kendall Deuvall and Valen Deuvall and step-great-grandmother to Seabring Huckleberry. She will also be missed by her nephews Kevin and Danny McKinstry.
