

Oliver Mayo Spotts, 91, passed away on February 2, 2017 with family and a friend by his side in North Kansas City. Funeral service 10am Mon., Feb. 6th at the Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Rd., Independence, MO 64050 with visitation one hour prior. Burial following in Clifton Hill, MO Cemetery.
Oliver was born November 19, 1925 on a farm near Clifton Hill, MO to Ollie H. & Thelma Mayo Spotts. He graduated from Clifton Hill High School in 1943 and entered the US Navy during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre (Pearl Harbor) from 1943-1945 and in the US until his discharge in 1947. Oliver’s entire employment career was spent at General Mills in Kansas City, MO.
He enjoyed many activities such as running and bicycling. Oliver holds various trophies and awards from marathons and other competitions. He was also an accomplished Ballroom dancer and was everyone’s favorite partner. Oliver had an encyclopedic memory for sports and athletics, especially regarding football, baseball and basketball. He also participated in cross country bicycling and continued these activities well into old age. Oliver’s memory was well versed in Spotts family history and has several distant relatives in the Missouri counties of Boone and Randolph and in the state of Colorado.
Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Lela “Lee” (Sloan), his parents and his sister, Beverly Powell. He is survived by his brother-in-law, John Powell of East Lansing, MI and his nephews, John E. Powell and Jeffrey Powell of Troy, MI as well as special friends, Bettie Miller, Debb Allen and Alice Wolfe of the Kansas City area.
