On September 26, 2023, Pam peacefully passed into Heaven with her loving family and friends around her at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. She fought a long battle throughout her life with her health off and on but she still kept that light in her soul and smile on her face.
Pam was born in Enid, OK to Reba and Bob Givens. She was predeceased by her parents, stepfather, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Ed Updyke; daughter, Desirae Brandenburg of Olathe, KS, son, Brandon Updyke of Prairie Village, KS; sister Pat (Dave) McBeath of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Lylah & Jaxton Brandenburg along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pam and Ed met in Oscoda, MI while Ed was stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base. They were married on June 7, 1991. To help her father in a time of illness, Ed received a humanitarian transfer to Whiteman Air Force Base, MO so that Pam could take care of her father. They remained there until 1997 and then moved to Prairie Village, KS.
Pam loved working in her yard with her koi pond, growing her beautiful flower gardens and rare stones and seashells. She was very passionate about woodworking, painting, sketching, and many other crafts. She loved going on any kind of adventure she could get her hands on and would whoop you playing just about any game! She owned her own landscaping business and worked at Flowerama as a floral designer until she became too ill.
Pam’s love for life made it easy for her to make friends with anyone she met. Anyone who took regular walks around the neighborhood became a good friend. They all loved her gardens as much as her beautiful personality. She was kind and gave of herself to her friends and anyone in need. We will never forget the sparkle in her eyes and her beautiful smile. She will be forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Pam's Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145, with Visitation beginning one hour prior.
