Patricia Ann (Lewis) Shrewsbury was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 9, 1934 and passed away on April 25, 2023. Visitation will be at St. Sabina’s Catholic Church (700 Trevis Avenue, Belton, Missouri) on Friday, May 19 beginning at 10:00 AM followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. A private interment will be at a later date.
Pat had three great loves in her life: her Faith, her husband and her animals.
Her Catholic Faith was her mainstay. She attended daily Mass until the pandemic put restrictions on that. However, prayer was a vital part of her life. She believed in its healing and transforming power. She was a contributor to many religious organizations.
Her husband, William (Willie Shrewsbury was the love of her life. She had promised her mother that she would not marry until she was twenty-one. She turned twenty-one on September 9, and on September 10, 1955 she and Willie were married. She was proud of her Irish heritage, so taking an English surname was a stretch. Definitely, it was true love. They were together for 54 years until his death in 2009. Although they never had children, they were always available to their numerous nieces and nephews.
Animals were always in the Shrewsbury household, from German Shepherds to Schnauzers (all named Whiskers) to rescues (all named Kate) and one cat, Mike, who ruled the home. Having to find placements for Mike and the last Kate when she moved out of her Villa was heartbreaking for Pat.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, William; her brother, Francis Lewis; and her niece Desiree Odion.
She is survived by her sister, Grace Sheets of Grandview, Missouri; sister, Thomasina Campbell of North Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Mary Alice Campbell of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Lela Lewis of Parkville, Missouri; niece, Cynthia Stasevich and family of Olathe, Kansas. Many thanks to the close and invaluable friends, Lou and Belinda Williams of Greenwood, Indiana and Steve and Kim Turner of Raymore, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor (8745 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64135) or KC Pet Project (7077 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64132). Or you can lift a glass with honey whiskey and give an Irish Blessing.
