Patricia L. Smith

Patricia L. Smith passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2025. Pat was born on April 13, 1936, to Lee and Mathilda Krenik in Le Center, Minnesota. She grew up in Le Center and, after graduating from high school, moved to Kansas City to attend nursing school at St. Mary’s Hospital.

While in Kansas City, Pat met her husband, William W. Smith. After they married, she stayed home to raise their 5 children. Bill and Pat were married for 49 years before his passing almost 21 years ago. She made Kansas City her home for the remainder of her life.

Pat is survived by her five children, Pam Morlan (Tony), Patti Amego (Steve), Mike Smith (Mary), Cathy Willenbring (Luke), and Karen O’Neil (Kevin); and 2 sisters, Rita McCabe and Barb Roemhildt. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 8 great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Colleen, her brother, Don, her son-in-law, Ted, and great-grandson, Jack.

Pat leaves behind a legacy defined by love, service, and generosity. She was deeply committed to her community and devoted countless hours to helping others. Her volunteer work included many years with the Ladies Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus, St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Bishop Sullivan Center, and several local thrift stores, where she shared her time and kindness freely.

Pat was also known for her passion for cooking/baking, gardening, caring for her pets, and hosting gatherings for family and friends. Her annual Mardi Gras party was a beloved tradition, and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities or to a charity of your choice.

A visitation is scheduled at 9:30 a.m., concluding with Rosary prayers by 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 also at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow services in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
