

Patricia Kay Thomas, 62, of Independence, MO, died Tuesday February 15, 2011, at Research Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 18, 2011, at Guardian Angels Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the McGilley Midtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Luke’s Kidney Transplant Program (4225 Baltimore Ave, KCMO 64111) or Guardian Angels Church.
Pat was born August 30, 1948, to Albert L. and Gladys (Ready) Thomas in Kansas City, MO. She was a graduate of Loretto Academy and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Texas at Austin and her Masters Degree in Business from Avila University. Pat taught science and social studies at Palmer and Bingham Jr. High Schools in Independence for 29 years before retiring in 2001. She was a member of Guardian Angels Church, a lifetime member of the NEA, and the longtime manager of “The Grapes Unknown” softball team. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and two aunts, Dorothy Ready and Helen “Lala” Thomas. Pat’s survivors include her longtime friend and roommate Donna Shuler and her family; her brother Al Thomas and wife Jacqui; nephew Mike and nieces Nancy and Karen; two great nephews Justin and Josh and great niece Katie; many cousins, among them Dee Ready and Katy Kessler; and many special friends, among them Mary, Ed, Marilyn, and Merble.
