She was born on November 29, 1947 in Kansas City, MO at Trinity Lutheran hospital. She was the daughter of Helen and Ernest Jones and the 5th of 6 children. She attended McCoy Elementary, Baptiste Junior High and Ruskin High School (class of 1965).
Pat married her “Mr. Right” Jim Wright, the love of her life, on September 6,1969.
Pat worked at BMA insurance, Reliance Insurance and the General Adjustment Bureau until 1971 when she was promoted to Mom, her most important job. While her daughters were in school, Pat was a stay at home mom who had an in-home daycare for children of teachers so she could have the summers off with her girls. Their home on Homestead Circle was always filled with delicious baked goods (like oatmeal bars), family and friends. Instilling the love of education in her daughters, they both became educators. In 1988, she and Jim opened Homestead Furniture, a family business. In 1993, she went to work for the Johnson County District Attorney's Office until her 2011 retirement. Pat and Jim wintered in Florida for 8 years, then moved to Florida full-time for 3 years. They returned to KC in 2021 to be close to family. She was diagnosed with stage 4 uterine cancer in 2023. Always optimistic and leaning on her faith, she knew she was “fearfully and wonderfully made”- Psalm 139:14. She weathered this journey with dignity and grace.
Pat was a member of Olathe Christian Church for over 30 years. She was very active and devoted in her service, volunteering in the nursery, as a faith encourager, vacation bible school, prayer chains, faith clubs, bible studies, women’s ministries and more. Her life was defined by faith, family and friendships. She was a walking embodiment of the fruits of the Spirit. She showed everyone she encountered (whether a friend, coworker, neighbor, worshiper, health care provider or family) love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness.
Pat was an amazing seamstress making baptism, communion, prom and bridesmaid dresses. She sewed anything needed for family and friends. Pat cut not only her own hair but was the neighborhood hairstylist/barber. She enjoyed reading and traveling. Her family took many vacations in their station wagon all over the US. She loved her cruises to Alaska and Hawaii and traveling through Europe. Her last (and maybe favorite) trip was the Caribbean cruise her family took this past November to celebrate her birthday (and a welcome break from treatment).
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Ernest Jones, her mother-in-law Diana Frederick; her siblings, Ernestine (Jones) Bean, Robert Jones, Judy Jones, Barbara (Jones) Dooley and Mark Jones.
She is survived by her loving husband James(Jim)Wright of Overland Park, KS and her treasured daughters, Amy and son in-law Joe Stramberg of Lawrence, KS and Carrie Wright of Olathe, KS. She was a beloved Nana to three cherished grandchildren: Emma Stramberg of San Francisco, CA, Keaton Stramberg of Overland Park, KS and Liam Stramberg of Lawrence, KS and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews
