Patrick O’Brien of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at age 39 on Friday, March 8, 2024. Father, son, husband, brother, uncle and friend. Patrick was many things to many people. A concrete enthusiast, avid Chiefs fan, and was as comfortable in a pair of steel-toed boots as he was in swim trunks with his scuba gear in the blue Caribbean waters.
He was a jack of all trades, a technology guru as well as a man who knew his way around a concrete plant. A dog lover, and a cat aficionado. He was always learning, always sharing something he heard about or read. There was never a question he didn’t know the answer to.
Everyone knew that as much as he loved Mexican food, he would wither at the sight of mushrooms. He loved a good home cooked lasagna and Cheesecake Factory banana cheesecake.
A foster dad to three girls over the years, Patrick was the epitome of a ‘girl dad’ with his kind, gentle and patient personality. When Evelyn was born in 2020, he became “papa” the doting father who would gladly sip ‘tea’ while he and Evelyn got out their tools and put together the kitchen she got for Christmas. He had such a deep love for Evelyn and was so proud of how smart she is. He loved to look through pictures on his phone and reflect on how much she had grown.
When things seemed upside down, sideways and inside out, Patrick did his best to lend a hand and make everything right. He was always overly prepared whether it was an extra charging cable, a stash of freeze-dried food, 10 extra power tool battery packs or the 3 air compressors he had to have. There were struggles, but also snuggles. We will miss his laugh, his grilling skills, his tenacity, but most of all his presence.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Samantha O’Brien; daughter, Evelyn O’Brien; father, Dennis O’Brien; stepmother, Jane O’Brien; grandparents, Frank Zizza and Dottie and Leo O’Brien; brothers, Paul (Jessica) O’Brien, Kevin (Jesse) O’Brien and Eric Watts (Morgan); sister, Meghan O’Brien; step-siblings, Nicole, John Paul and Jack Krawczyk, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by mother, Robin Zizza O’Brien and grandmother, Shirley Zizza.
A visitation for Patrick will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145. His Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee's Summit, Missouri 64081. Burial will immediately follow in Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 E. US Highway 50, Lee's Summit, Missouri 64086.
