Patrick Kevin Tracy, 58, passed away September 29, 2021, after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer. Pat was born in Omaha, NE, to William and Mary Tracy. He graduated from Mary Our Queen Catholic School and Mount Michael Benedictine School and received a Bachelor of Art’s degree in communications from Rockhurst College and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Baker University. He was a strategic account manager for Cengage and previously worked with other companies in executive sales positions. Pat was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish, Brookridge Golf and Fitness, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and a past season ticket holder with the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Mary Catherine McKernan. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carol Martin Tracy; daughter Catherine Quinn Tracy; siblings Barbara Tracy, Kevin Tracy (Lisa), Tom Tracy (Mary Anne) and Chris Tracy; and a large extended family and circle of friends.
Pat enjoyed a successful career in sales during which he received several awards for outstanding performance. As a passionate sports fan, Pat cheered for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Creighton Blue Jays, and Kansas Jayhawks; Kansas City Chiefs and Royals; and several local high school teams. Pat, Carol, and Quinn frequently attended sporting events for these teams and often got together with friends to watch games. He especially enjoyed attending Super Bowl XXXIV with friends. The Chiefs may not have been playing, but it was a memorable experience for him, nonetheless. In recent years, Pat took up golf and was excited about how his golf game was coming along.
For the last several years, Pat vacationed with family at beaches along the Florida Gulf Coast. He could often be found playing in the waves with the kids and parasailing along the coastline with his daughter. It was during one of these vacations that “Pat from Kansas” made his stage debut, capturing coveted bragging rights in a beach-side bar lip-synch battle!
Pat’s daughter Quinn was the apple of his eye and they shared a very close and loving relationship. Beginning in pre-K, he and several dads from St. Michael’s parish coached their daughters’ soccer and softball teams through middle school. While some practices and games were more enjoyable than others, Pat loved coaching these young ladies and was their biggest fan. As Quinn began to focus on volleyball, Pat’s “coaching career” came to an end and he transitioned to the role of videographer, analyst, and cheerleader. At tournaments, he was the go-to-guy for helping parents discern schedules, pool play, bracket play, standings, and bids to national tournaments. He lived for those tournaments and loved watching Quinn and her teammates play! He and Quinn often replayed the matches he taped so they could enjoy her games together. He spent the Saturday before his death videotaping matches and cheering on Quinn’s high school volleyball team at a tournament. He was excited about their second place finish in that tournament! Pat was incredibly proud of Quinn’s hard work both on and off the court and looked forward to watching her play in the coming years.
Pat was active in several ministries at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish, including School Advisory Council, Defenders’ Ball, and Gardening Angels. From 2017-2021, Pat volunteered as St. Michael’s athletic director, overseeing the parish’s participation in the Archdiocese’s CYO sports program. He especially loved Saturdays at the gym, watching the kids from around the Archdiocese play volleyball and basketball and visiting with all the coaches, referees, workers, concessions volunteers, and fans who made gamedays happen. It is with this in mind that memorial contributions may be directed to CYO in Pat’s honor. Donations will help to fund CYO scholarships and provide sports equipment for CYO athletes in need throughout the Archdiocese as well as support other CYO program needs. Additional details to follow once finalized.
Pat met his brain cancer diagnosis with extreme grace. His faith, along with the love, support, and prayers of his large circle of family, friends, and colleagues, comforted him during his short five-month battle. Our family is forever grateful for the care extended to Pat and to us during this time. We will cherish our time with Pat and hold closely our memories of him in the years to come.
