He was the captain of the Red Raider football and basketball teams and lettered yearly in golf and tennis. Following the path of his father and Uncle Brutus Hamilton, Pud attended the University of Missouri. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi, the source of many endearing friendships. In August of 1950, on the happiest day of his life, Pud and Jo Anne Hudson were wed, and thus began their 64 year married life. They became the parents of two daughters, Josephine Anne Hudson of Redmond, WA and Elizabeth Hamilton Rowley, who passed away in 2007. Favorite family activities included traveling to Bemidji, MN in the summers and Phoenix, AZ in the winter. Pud loved his dogs, particularly his yellow Labrador, Reggie and any dachshund named Bootsie. Pud spent his adult life in Kansas City and Colorado Springs where, in both locales, he led an active civic, professional, social and family life. He was also chairman of the Paul Hamilton Company. Pud's directorships included the Central Bank, Grand Avenue Bank, City National Bank, UMB and UMB Financial. He was a board member of Goodwill Industries and the Chamber of Commerce. He took special pride in his association with Drury University in Springfield, where he served as vice-chairman of the Board of Governors. His club affiliations included the Kansas City Country Club, River Club, Racquet Club, University Club, Broadmoor Club, El Paso Club and Garden of the Gods Club. Throughout his life, he took much pleasure in playing golf and tennis. He was quite the athlete and de- lighted in friendly competition. After a game, he enjoyed having a cocktail, a cigar and a round of gin rummy with his friends. Pud was the consummate sports fan, always cheering for the Missouri Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was honored by the Chiefs by receiving the first Red Coat when the program began in 1963. Pud was a life-long communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Pud was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Guyton McKellar Hamilton, and his daughter Betsy. He is survived by his wife, Joanie and daughter Josephine (Annie) of Redmond, WA. He was the grandfather of John Hamilton Rowley and Margaret Elizabeth Rowley and the father-in-law of Joseph Rowley of Shawnee Mission. Pud was also the brother-in-law of Kaethe Brauns Broe of Baxter County, Arkansas. Services are planned for Friday, January 16, 2015 at 2 PM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with a reception at the church immediately following. In keeping with Pud's love for his dogs, donations to Wayside Waifs would be gratefully accepted.
