Pedro Heng died at the age of 82 on October 31st, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. His children invite you to an open house on Saturday, November 4th from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, 9916 Harrison, Kansas City, Missouri.
Pedro Alfredo Heng was born in Cuba in the province of Oriente on July 14th, 1935. He married Maria Julia Andreu on June 20th, 1959 in Havana, Cuba. The couple immigrated to the United States in 1962 and made their home in Kansas City, Missouri where they raised their three children. He proudly became a naturalized citizen of his adopted home.
If you knew him, there’s no telling how you remember Pedro best, since he was a kind of Renaissance man. The man who was in the driveway with Esther one day, rebuilding the engine they’d taken apart hours earlier was the same man who would be at an easel the next day, combining colors on a palette and putting the finishing touches on an oil painting. He found the symphony as thrilling as a prize fight, the opera as moving as a sunny day on a calm lake. He was a sportsman and a fan, following his hometown Chiefs and Royals, especially enjoying every moment of the 2015 Royals World Series win, and reliving the memory of the thrilling ’85 victory!
Pedro found endless beauty in nature, and in his long marriage to Maria, they enjoyed road trips throughout the United States, especially to the Rockies and many of the country’s National Parks. He was a good neighbor and a devoted husband and father, and along with his wife, the greatest source of pride and joy in his life was his grandchildren.
Pedro is survived by his children, Julio (Cindy) Heng of Enid, Oklahoma, Esther Heng of Kansas City, Missouri and Elizabeth (Justin) Chamberlain of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Collin Heng-Patton, Julia and Christian Chamberlain, Terry (Jennifer) Carr, and great granddaughter, Aeryn. Pedro is also survived by his brother, Felipe and sisters, Raquel, Eliza, Clara, Ana & Marta; he will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in Pedro’s name to:
