Peggy J. Caughron, 86, of Belton, MO passed away Wednesday July 18, 2018 due to complications associated with ongoing health problems. She is survived by a brother Jerry Joe and three (3) children Michael, Paula and Jana all of the Kansas City metropolitan area, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy followed her mother’s chosen career path of Nursing and served in several management roles in hospital based care, mental health, home health, VA hospital care and industrial nursing roles for 50 years in Missouri, Kansas, Ohio and Kentucky. She was also one course short of completing the requirements for a Nurse Practitioner when the program was cancelled unexpectedly by the institution where she had studied.
Born in NW Missouri on a farm outside a small town near a lake, she developed a love of the water, going swimming, fishing, boating and water skiing whenever she had the opportunity. In Nursing School at St. Mary’s in Kansas City her love of swimming prompted participation in the St. Mary’s Synchronized Swim Team and doing several events and competitions.
While finishing her work at St. Mary’s she not only met a handsome, as well as, she stated, “the most arrogant man I ever met”, when treating him for injuries in a car accident. That man was her soon to become husband, Don. With Don’s and her love of the outdoors, they spent many weekends over the years teaching their children such appreciation, as well as a love of the water, camping and a general enjoyment of life and the arts.
Having a love for painting from an early age Peggy did several paintings and charcoal drawings and even won a few awards for some of her work. As a lover of several of the other arts such as music, singing, acting and dance she was a great encourager of her children to develop similar appreciations and loves. Additionally she and Don often participated in community theater productions and performances.
Following the unexpected death of Don in the mid 90’s, Peggy strove to keep the family connection with the outdoors and the family farm, the place on which Don had been born. She upgraded the living accommodations on the farm and in fulfillment of her husband’s wishes to be buried in the place he was born, Peggy built and deeded to Linn County, MO the White Oaks Caughron Family Cemetery where she will be interred alongside her husband Don.
