
Phyllis Grado, 80, of the Kansas City, MO Westside Neighborhood, died on Thursday, June 14, at her home surrounded by her family after a battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Cesar Chavez Avenida, Kansas City, MO. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Phyllis was born on May 21, 1932 in Emporia, Kansas to Jose and Dolores (Trujillo) Madrigal. Mom had a great passion for music, entertaining with her piano, cooking, ceramics, planting flowers and playing marbles with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ramana Moreno, Rosa Cavillo, Pauline Velasquez, Mary (Lucy) Reynaga; and her brother, John Madrigal. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 64 years of the home, Robert Grado, Sr.; her daughters and sons, including spouses, Linda Frias (Guadalupe), Robert Grado, Jr. (Lilly), Bernard Grado (Christine), Sally R. Grado-Gasca, Irene Anzua (Cosme) and David Grado, all of Kansas City; her sisters, Josephine Meneses, Eva Miramontes of Kansas City; brother, Ralph Madrigal (Mary) of San Jose, CA; 26 grandchildren, 51 great- grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter of Tucson, AZ and several hundred nieces and nephews. Mom was mainly a homemaker but had worked at seasonal jobs for the US Post Office, Empire Mfg. Co, Luce Luggage; and her last couple of jobs was working as a nanny for other families, Drs. Michael Farrar and Debra Green and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Melland.
