Phyllis Jane Jensen

January 31, 1935 – December 8, 2024
Obituary of Phyllis Jane Jensen
IN THE CARE OF

Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home & Mount Moriah Cemetery South

Phyllis (Jane) Jensen died December 8, 2024 at the age of 89, after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

Jane was born on January 31, 1935 in Friend, Nebraska, the middle of 5 daughters born to Richard and Opal (Warsop) Jensen. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1953. She attended nurses training at Trinity Lutheran Hospital. In 1954 she married George Jensen and therefore never had to change her maiden name. They were lifelong residents of Kansas City. Their unique business ventures allowed them to travel, spend the winters in Florida, and summers on Lake Taneycomo.

Jane was tom-boy tough, hard-working, persistent, always willing to get her hands dirty, exceptionally generous with a huge heart, a patient teacher, a lifetime learner, an improviser, the hostess with the mostest, an artist in oils, an eternal optimist, an active member of her community & families, cheerleader for the underdog, loved by so many, mechanically gifted, happy, tireless, resilient, a snowbird, imperfect as the next person, a general lover of life and Jesus, and so much more.

Survivors include daughter Vicki (Brad) Close, granddaughter Courtney (Jim) Breitkreutz, grandson Christopher Close, great-grandson Zac (Kaitlyn) Breitkreutz, and great-great-granddaughters Harper Lynn and Sadie Jane Breitkreutz. She is also survived by sisters Marie Allen, and Dixie (Roy) Green, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, son Victor (Chris) Christian Jensen and sisters Marlys Meek and Sue Sundbye.

Private services will be held for Jane on Monday, December 16, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Community Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
