

Phyllis was born on November 11, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Lula Mae and Russell Bevans.
After graduating from Central High School she worked for Westport Bank then Western Auto corporate headquarters.
In her youth, she enjoyed skating at the El Torreon skating rink where she met and later married her skating partner Bill Ruby. Widowed by a fatal auto accident in St. Louis, Missouri, left her in a coma for many days. As a result of her injuries, she had to relearn names of everyday objects.
In 1955 she married Frank Ross and from that union had two daughters. She enjoyed being involved in the girls school and activities by being a room mother, working in the cafeteria, and President of the PTA. She taught Sunday School at Swope Park Baptist Church for many years. She was also an assistant troop leader for Girls Scouts and Brownies. She enjoyed being a housewife until 1978 when Frank died of an aneurysm.
After Frank died, Phyllis decided to get a job and started working for Dr. Barry as an assistant. She happily trained to give allergy tests and allergy shots.
In 1982 she married Melvin Shockley. They were married 39 years until Melvin passed in 2021. Throughout their life together they loved going to the lake to fish, boat, and hang out with family. They enjoyed car trips around the country and also enjoyed bowling in a league for many years.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters Sherri Kuhn, Susan Rebholz (John Rebholz), grandson Alex Kuhn (Samantha Kuhn), and great-grandchildren Asher Kuhn and Elliott Kuhn. She also is survived by stepdaughters Verna Price (Ron Price), Cheryl Millican, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
