

Phyllis Carol (Campbell) Vaughn passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020 after a prolonged illness. Phyllis was born to Earl and Alma Campbell on October 10, 1934, on the family farm near Guilford, MO. She graduated from high school at Stanberry High School where she enjoyed playing music in the band and her classroom work. After graduation, Phyllis moved to Kansas City, MO and attended Central Business College. With her coursework completed, she began work at New York Life Insurance as a secretary.
During the Korean War she began corresponding with an Army soldier named Charles Edward Vaughn. Their letter writing blossomed into romance and dating when he returned home to Kansas City in 1954. They were married on June 19, 1955 and settled into a home in Raytown, MO where they raised their three sons. She stayed busy raising her family and caring for Charles when he became ill. Phyllis loved being active as a church member at New Hope Christian Church, attending many sporting events and school activities with her children. Her faith in God always sustained her throughout her life.
In 1971, Phyllis began her a career at the University of Missouri Kansas City – School of Pharmacy serving as a Coordinator of Continuing Education. During her time there she was a dedicated colleague and friend to many pharmacy students and pharmacists. She was beloved by all. She retired on July 1, 2000, completing over 30 ½ years of dedicated service.
In her retirement, Phyllis enjoyed attending Christ United Methodist Church where she was a member of the church choir and playing the piano and various volunteer activities in service of the Lord. She enjoyed helping others in her life of service. Phyllis enjoyed sewing and quilting while creating treasures for others. Phyllis loved her family with a passion and was always attending sporting events to watch her grandchildren play, travelling near and far to see them.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Charles, parents Earl and Alma Campbell, brother Herbert (Darlene) Campbell.
She is survived by her three sons Danny (Nancy Wilkens) Vaughn of Lone Jack, Mo, Phil (Kim) Vaughn of Scottsdale, AZ and Gary Vaughn of Lees Summit, MO., seven grandchildren – Kyler (Janet) Vaughn of Scottsdale, AZ, Preston Vaughn of Phoenix Arizona , Kayla Cindric (Brae) of Chandler, Arizona, Kellie (David) Straily of Los Angeles, CA, Katie Vaughn of Springfield, MO, Luke Vaughn of Springfield, MO and Brett Vaughn of Cedarville, OH, three Great Grandchildren – Kaeden Vaughn, Scottsdale, AZ, Robin Straily of Los Angeles, CA and Isla Cindric of Chandler, AZ, Sisters in law Faye (Clifford) Lamb of Bucker, MO, Darlene Campbell of St Joseph, Mo and brother in law Dale Vaughn of Pittsburgh, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Floral Hills Funeral Home. Due to COVID restrictions a funeral service for immediate family will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 with a socially distanced graveside burial at 10:40am for friends and family.
