Porfirio Raya, Sr., 57, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on August 23, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona (Ramirez); father, Clemente Sr.; sister, Catalina; brother, Joseph; and niece, Olivia.
Porfirio was educated in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Bishop Lillis High School. He later served in the United States Navy and received his Associates degree from Cornell University.
Porfirio retired as a Business Agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124. Porfirio will be remembered as a passionate contributor to the labor movement. His other achievements include becoming Master of his Masonic Lodge and also the First Ward Democratic Committee member. His hobbies included golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Norma (Moran); his sons, Porfirio, Jr. and Louis; daughter-in-law, Andrea; granddaughter, Maricela; his brothers, Clemente Jr. (Cheryl), Louis (Sylvia), Mark (Tammy), Roman (Linda); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 10:30 am-12:30 pm on Monday, Aug. 28 at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd, KCMO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday at Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, KCMO. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Mt Moriah Cemetery.
