Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2026 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 777 NE Blackwell Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, the Rosary will be prayed at 10:45am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Rafael will be laid to rest immediately after Mass in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2201 Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri.
Rafael was born October 25, 1927 in Horton, Kansas. He served in the Army from November 13, 1950 - November 15, 1952. He was a medic in Germany during the Korean War. On April 23, 1955, he married Esther Briseno. They were married for 59 years until her passing in 2014.
Rafael worked for Schreibers Candy and Cigarettes Wholesale. He also worked for Rock Island Railroad, Santa Fe Railroad, and Southern Pacific Railroad as a carman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He sang in the Pontifical Choir at the Immaculate Conception of Kansas City. The choir at that time had an album released. He volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe's annual Mexican Fiesta operating the hot dog and popcorn stand for many years. Rafael retired in 1992 and spent his retirement with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He also cared for his loving wife Esther “Chata.”
Rafael was preceded in death by his parents Cenobio Lozano and Margarita Gomez Lozano; his loving wife Esther “Chata”; son Peter Anthony; grandson Brandon Hernandez; siblings Altagracia “Grace” Gaona, Refugio “Ruth” DeLeon, Delores “LuLu” Lopez, and Cenobio John “Butch” Lozano.
Survivors include his children Rafael Lozano Jr. (Rosemarie), Sally A. Lozano, Cecilia D. Lozano, Roseann Hernandez (Chris), Joseph Lozano; sister Jacqueline “Jackie” Vallejo, brother Salvadore “Pep” Lozano; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was greatly loved by his family and will be missed.
