

Ralph was born June 28, 1921 in Flush, Kansas to Mary (Weltsch) and Vincent Umscheid the 2nd of 4 children. He grew up in the Flush community working on his family farm and attending the St. Joseph schools. In 1942 he entered the US Army where he first served in the African Theatre before being sent to the China/Burma/India Theatre for 3 years. He served as a Technical Staff Sergeant and was discharged on Christmas Day 1945.
He married Mary Alice Lauer on Feb. 18, 1946. They lived in Flush until 1955 when they moved their family to Kansas City, MO. Ralph worked as a diesel mechanic at KC Diesel until he retired in 1982. He and Mary Alice enjoyed traveling and they visited all of the lower 48 states, including trips to Blue Grass Festivals from Minnesota to Louisiana.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Mary Alice; his sons: Loren and wife Margaret of KC North, Daniel and wife Tamara of Sugar Creek, Earl and his wife Karel of Weston and the widow of his oldest son Roger Judy Umscheid of KC North; one brother, Charles Umscheid of Topeka, KS; one sister, Marjorie Kerton of Pontiac, MI; 11 Grandchildren and 17 great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at McGilley Antioch Chapel on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 between 6 and 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, KS on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10:30 AM. Final internment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Flush, KS.
Memorials may be given to St. Patrick Church in KC North or to St. Joseph Catholic Church (Building Fund) in Flush, KS.
