Richard A. Collins
July 11, 1957 – May 19, 2020
Richard was born July 11, 1957 in Westplains, MO to Delbert E. Collins and Viola L. Blackwell Collins.
He worked as a pressman for over 35 years, retiring from Herff Jones in 2019.
Richard had an incredibly giving heart, an infectious smile and touched people in every area of his life.
Richard grew up on the West Side of Kansas City, and accepted Christ as a teen through the work of New Life Inner City. He became a volunteer there and as an adult a board member helping to continue the work.
As a young man he became interested in motorsports, and at one time was a driver at several different tracks including: Riverside Stadium, Lakeside Speedway and Shawnee Raceway. As a result of his driving, he was asked to be a part of the pit crew for several drivers, where he began to shine as a crew member. His knowledge was valuable, and was sought after for years leading to much success.
Richard grew up in a musical family. While he did not perform like his brothers, he had a natural ear for harmonies and had the ability to play various instruments. He loved Jazz, Blues, and multiple other genres of music. He also had an appreciation for Bluegrass music serving as a board member of the Kansas City Area Bluegrass Music Club.
He was an avid fisherman, competing and winning in several tournaments. He also enjoyed turkey and deer hunting. After retirement he spent his time at Truman lake, crappie fishing with his buddy’s.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Delbert and brother Patrick. He leaves: his mother Vi, brothers Micheal and Robert, niece Bridget with her husband Alfredo, great nephews Emmanuel, Jacob and Samuel, and Sister in law Beckie, and a host of Aunts and cousins.
Richard touched many lives with his caring heart and giving nature. He has left a hole in our lives that can never be replaced.

My dad Larry Kaster always liked the Collins boys. Richard was a great pit man for many successful racers. We would always see him and Robert at the Christy's Daytona party and Richard would take the time to visit with my Mom Dixie. Buz said Richard raced for awhile too. The Kaster family is sorry for Robert and Mike's loss and we will miss seeing Richard in the racing family.

I unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to get to know Richard as well as so many others. However, it didn’t take long to realize that he truly loved life, friends and family. I am humbled by his acceptance. I’m grateful for the fishing adventures Richard shared with my husband mike woodward. Ohhhh the stories.....and the memories. Rest In Peace friend🙏🙏
