On August 8, 1953, Dick married Doris Hentzen and they settled in Independence, MO. He was an avid woodworker, but spent most of his career in the sheet metal industry with the Bill Fagan Co. He loved the outdoors, especially trout fishing at Roaring River for over 70 years. He enjoyed feeding the backyard finches and watching them from his sunporch. He could often be found at his grandchildren’s sporting activities, cheering them on. Dick was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Doris Marie (Hentzen), grandson, Joshua Edmonds, and his parents, Arthur and Lottie Edmonds. Dick is survived by his children, Cheryl Nichols (Mark), Dan (Claudia) and Mary Lynn Broll (Peter) and grandchildren, Laura Neir (Roger), Christy Nichols, Angela Isern (Brian), Michele Babin (Dusko) Matt Nichols (Wendi), Mia Meurer (Jacob), Renee Douglas (Sam) and great-grandchildren, Alex, Jessica, Cole, Jack, Mark, Carlie, Claire, Kate, Etta, Edith and great-great-granddaughter, Danielle.
