

He was born April 17, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Richard and Helen Koury. Richard graduated from Raytown South High School in 1965 and continued his education at the University of Missouri Kansas City. He received his business degree in 1971 and his Juris Doctorate from University of Missouri Kansas City in 1974.
Richard was an Eagle Scout and spent many summers at the H. Roe Bartle Camp in Osceola, Missouri where he became a member of the Tribe of Mic-o-say. Richard served his country in the United States Army as a combat infantryman from 1966-1968 and spent 1967 in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Richard started his professional career as an attorney opening his first solo law practice in Raytown, Missouri and later in Independence, Missouri. He was active in the Missouri and Eastern Jackson County Bar Associations. Along with practicing law Richard was also a real estate developer and a classic car dealer. He retired from his law practice after 41 years when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer from exposure to agent orange during the Vietnam War. Richard’s hobbies were hunting, hiking, boating, collecting classic cars and going to Florida with his wife.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and younger brother.
Survivors include his wife Cindy, daughters Jennifer and Jessica, stepsons Chris and Brian, and many grandchildren.
