
Knowing that he was dearly loved by his family and friends, Richard “Dick” Allen O’Dell, 80, of Raytown, MO passed away March 6, 2013 at his home after a short battle with cancer. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 13, at 2 p.m., with visitation starting at 1 p.m. His ashes will be inurned at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville.
Dick was born February 18, 1933 in Avondale, MO. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dick retired as a Civil Engineer from the City of Kansas City. He was a member of Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Dick will be remembered for having a great sense of humor, his love his of music and a beautiful voice. He was a former member of the Heart of America Barbershop Chorus.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother, LeVona Harris; his father, Ray O’Dell; a brother, Bill O’Dell and his sister, Louella Sibert.
He is survived by three sons, Mike O’Dell and wife, Bev, of Independence, MO; Mark O’Dell and wife, Nancy, of Raytown, MO; Tim O’Dell of Raytown; and a daughter, Pam McMullin, of Kansas City; a brother, Audley O’Dell and wife, Linda, of Independence; and a sister-in-law, Virginia O’Dell of Lawson, MO. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Kay Countryman, of Raytown, MO. He leaves behind a loving family that includes 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
