Dr. Richard L. Owens

Richard L. Owens was born October 2, 1924 to Dr. Hugh and Mae Owens in Kansas City, MO. Richard was educated at St. Francis Xavier Grade School, Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst College in Kansas City and Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, NE, graduating in 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force and became a fighter pilot in 1942.

Richard was a family practitioner for over 50 years in Kansas City and Raytown, MO and was a staff member at St. Mary’s, Baptist and Research Hospitals.

He was preceded in death by: brothers Hugh, Herbert, Harold, and Edward; sister, Shirley; wife, Maxine; daughter, Mary Owens Shanahan; and great grandsons, Whit and Jude Hodes. He is survived by: daughters, Nancy Hodes and Julie Lise; son, Michael (Amy) Owens; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to your favorite charity.

The Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m., Sunday, February 11, followed by Visitation until 5 p.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 13 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS, followed by burial with military honors at Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO.
