Richard Ward Slater, 79, passed away October 27, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Richard was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 16, 1934 to Richard M. and Louise (Cutler) Slater. He was a graduate of Paseo High School and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He was a member of Kappa Sigma. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army. He was employed by IBM and Compuserve in Kansas City and Dallas. He retired and returned to Kansas City in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his sister Beverly Chaffee; a nephew, Paul Chaffee; a niece, Nancy Parker; four great niece , four great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
A private graveside service, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Parker, was held at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to Crossroads Hospice. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com.
