Richard Allen Swadley, a hard-working and kind-hearted soul, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 73. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on October 14, 1951, in Aurora, Missouri, Richard was known for his humorous and honest nature. He was a cherished and devoted individual who touched the lives of many.
Richard graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1970. He was the beloved son of Joe Rual Swadley and Mary (Boyd) (Swadley) Satnes. He had four sisters: Martha Alice Majors (Swadley), Margaret Jo Parker (Swadley), Francis Davis (Swadley), and Barbara Chang (Swadley), all of whom have preceded him in death.
In June 1971, Richard began his service in the army as a medic stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, completing his service in June 1973. His military service was a testament to his dedication and commitment.
On December 19, 1970, Richard married the love of his life, Lois Jean Barrett. Together, they had two children, Sara Joe Swadley (Jeremy) and Eric Allen Swadley. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and had a fondness for sneaking chocolate cake with the kids and granddaughters when Lois was out of town. Lois may have enjoyed fishing too had he taken her when it wasn’t always raining, or if he hadn’t thrown her fishing pole in the water for out fishing him. Their family grew with the addition of six beautiful granddaughters: Jillian Rose Swadley, Olivia Alexis Naomi Jaggars, Haylie Mae Swadley, Danielle Joe Swadley, Harper Sue Swadley, and Eliza Jean Swadley.
Richard was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a true friend to many. Known for his love of hunting and fishing, he found joy and peace in the outdoors. With a playful spirit and a knack for teasing those around him, Richard always brought laughter and smiles wherever he went. His kindness, humor, and love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of life will be held on September 28th, 2025, at Shelter House #3 on Lake Jacomo at 12pm noon. In lieu of flowers bring your favorite stories about Richard.
