Robert Owen Bacchus, 81, died March 16, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House after a brief struggle with cancer. A memorial visitation with the family will be Tues, March 20, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
Robert “Bob” was born January 4, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to R. Carl and Mildred Bacchus. Bob was a long time resident of Kansas City where he attended Central High School followed by Ruskin High School, where he graduated. As a young boy, he played baseball and was a star pitcher. During high school, he excelled in basketball and tennis, and at 15 years old, he was the tennis champion at Central High School. At Ruskin High School, Bob was a fantastic basketball player and played the game with passion. After high school, he enjoyed a brief career in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, he played on four city league basketball teams.
Bob worked for Ridgewood Floor Covering for many years and retired in 1990. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, tennis and watching anything sports related. In his 50’s, he restarted his Tennis career at Leawood Country Club where he won several Club Championships. His favorite time of the year was “March Madness”.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his son Daniel Allen Bacchus. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Kim Bacchus of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Brady LeeAnn Bacchus and grandson, Robert Brooks Bacchus of Arlington, Texas, and grandson Brian Thomas Bacchus of Freemont, Nebraska.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. David McNamara, Mr. Jerry Jones and other close friends for their support and friendship during Bob’s later years.
