Robert “Bob” Douglas Brents passed away unexpectedly at his home in Overland Park, Kansas on October 11, 2022 of natural causes. Bob was born at the Willows Maternity Sanitarium in Kansas City, Missouri on August 15, 1947. From there he was adopted by Lillian and Lawrence Brents.
Bob was overjoyed to meet the Morrellos, his paternal biological relatives in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, July 1992. His large Italian family welcomed him with open arms and it was a very joyful and healing time for him.
Bob was a United States Navy Veteran who served his country on the USS Raleigh. He was always proud of his service as well as the veterans who served alongside him.
Bob was a medical photographer at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the 1960s. Because it was a teaching hospital the photographers would climb ladders to shoot surgeries and other medical procedures to be used for educational purposes. This led to a lifelong love of photography. In his later years Bob worked part time for the Kansas City Star Newspaper’s Community Faces. When the Star eliminated this feature, Bob started Community Faces KC with a few additional photographers. His photographs were seen in photography and art exhibits around Kansas City. He was especially drawn to street photography.
In 1969 Bob started in the automotive business, first in sales, then management, and finally back in sales which he enjoyed. The majority of his employment was spent at highline dealerships with Aristocrat Motors being his last. In his half century in the business, he created long and lasting friendships with coworkers and customers. He will be greatly missed by many people, but most of all by his family who loved, adored and appreciated him.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Catherine “Cathy” Thompson Brents, his son, Jason Frazer Brozen, grandchildren, Olivia and Dean Brozen, all of whom will terribly miss “Camp Bob”. Also surviving is his sister Cindy (Steve) Felix, nieces, nephews and his 75th birthday present, a Goldendoodle, named “BB” after him.
“May you have fair winds and following seas until you reach your final home port to be with the Lord Jesus and God in heaven.”
A Celebration of Life is in the planning for a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harvesters, Samaritan’s Purse or the American Heart Association.
