Obituary of Robert Bernard Bruns Jr.
Robert Bernard Bruns, Jr., 74, passed away January 22, 2022. He is survived by siblings, Linda Diane Walsh (Stephen), Charles Bruns (Melody) and Karen Stoeffler (Jeff) and son, Adam Bruns (Heidi). Other survivors include nieces, Kelly Walsh-Wolter, Janelle Causey (Jon), Stephanie Kasper (Ryan), Suzanne Bossow (Mark) and nephews, James Walsh (Sherry) and Bryan Stoeffler (Katie). Bob also leaves two step grand-daughters, four great nieces, three great nephews and his dear cat, Jake. He is predeceased by Anna M. Bruns, mother, and Robert Bruns, Sr., father, and wife, Debbi. Bob grew up in Raytown, Missouri playing baseball, football and basketball and earned a trophy for archery. A fond memory is Chuck and Bob listening to the Kansas City A’s Baseball on the radio at night as boys. Another great memory is summers spent at the Nowlin Family Farm near Blackwater, Mo. Bob and Chuck spent time together watching Royals and Chiefs games on TV and talking politics. After graduating from Raytown South High School in 1965 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam and on U.S.S. Oriskany. In Vietnam Bob was severely wounded by a mortar shell and spent 48 days recovering at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. Bob worked at Armco Steel Corporation of Kansas City, U.S. Steel Corporation of Commerce City, Colorado.and the United States Postal Service of Denver, Colorado. Military Honors include: Purple Heart medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Naval Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Marksman Rifle and Good Conduct Medal. In 2001 Bob made a most important decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized. He and Debbi were members of the Open Class and attended worship services at Connection Point Church (First Baptist Church of Raytown, Mo. A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Connection Point Church, 10500 E. State Rte 350, Raytown, MO 64138. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 28, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 10500 E State Rte 350, Raytown, MO 64138. A Graveside service at Mount Olivet to follow.
