Robert E. Coomer passed away May 1, 2025 at Brookdale Wornall Assisted Living, at the age of 92. He was born on April 1,1933 in Shepherd, Michigan to Claude and Ida (Sage) Coomer. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. He then worked for Sam’s Parking Company, managing many garages and lots in downtown Kansas City, which opened an opportunity for work for the Kansas City Chiefs on game and event days as a parking & toll gate supervisor for 35 years. He loved telling many stories about his time at the stadium. He finished up his working career at the Marine Corps Finance Center.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara and second wife Jean, also his parents, and siblings George, Benjamin, Alice, Alex, Virgil and Willie. He is survived by sons John (Mary Ann), and Jim (Cindy); grandchildren, Colin (Kaitlin), Katie (Mike), Alexis (Josh), and Morgan (Adam); and great grandchildren, Beckett, Johnny, and another due this summer.
Memorial contributions can be sent to Coronation Church or Catholic Community Health Hospice.
A visitation for Robert will be held Tuesday, May 6 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the Rosary starting at 5:00 PM at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:00 AM at Coronation of Our Lady Parish, 13000 Bennington Avenue, Grandview, Missouri 64030, followed by the committal service at 12:30 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
