Robert Thomas Gambill

November 11, 1937 – May 18, 2026
Obituary of Robert Thomas Gambill
IN THE CARE OF

Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home & Mount Moriah Cemetery South

Robert Thomas Gambill passed away peacefully while sleeping on May 18th, 2026. His family was blessed to have him for 87 wonderful years. Robert ("Tom") was born in St. Louis, MO on November 11, 1937 to Robert L. and Viola Gambill. The family of three moved to the San Diego, CA area for a few years during WWII. Moving back to St Louis when Tom was about 7, Viola and Robert welcomed their second child, John "Jack" Gambill. A couple of years later the Gambills moved to Kansas City, MO where they stayed and raised their family. Tom was a loving and fun big brother to Jack. The stories told later in life always gave us a chuckle.

Tom graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served 3 years at a base in California. After being honorably discharged, Tom moved back to Kansas City where he met his beautiful wife, Margaret. Margaret and Tom married on June 2nd, 1973, and lived happily together for 51.5 beautiful years in the Waldo area of Kansas City, MO.

One of Tom's favorite things to do was travel (as long as a plane wasn't involved) with his wife. Estes Park, CO became a favorite vacation destination for Tom and Margaret as they would make the trek every summer for many years. He loved telling his family stories about the wildlife they encountered during their trips.

Tom loved reading, especially non-fiction historical books. His house is filled with the many books he read throughout his lifetime. Another favorite pastime was watching old western movies and he frequently quoted John Wayne (The Duke) with his quiet wit.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Gambill, his father, Robert Gambill, his mother, Viola Gambill, and his brother, John "Jack" Gambill. He is survived by his sister-in-law, niece and nephews.

Honoring Tom's wishes, there will be a private family service.
