Robert M. Gleeson

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James and Julia Gleeson, and his brother, James Gleeson, Jr.

Bob starred as a standout basketball player at Rockhurst High and College, as well as St. Mary's of the Plains. A proud Vietnam War-era veteran, Bob proudly served his country as an F-4 Flight Officer in the United States Navy. After service in the Navy, Bob dedicated much of his professional life to education. He inspired countless students throughout his career and shared his passion for basketball as a high school coach at Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City and Fort Worth Country Day in Texas. His ability to teach extended far beyond the classroom and the basketball court—he was a mentor, encourager, and friend to many.

When he wasn't teaching or coaching, Bob could often be found on the golf course or in a duck blind, enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. During the off-season, however, he embraced another passion - learning magic tricks to delight his grandchildren. To them, he wasn't simply Papa; he was "Magic Papa," and there was nothing he loved more than seeing their eyes light up with wonder and laughter.

Bob possessed a quick wit, a gift for storytelling, and an infectious sense of humor that could captivate any audience. Whether sharing a tale from years gone by or making everyone laugh around the dinner table, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and included. He believed deeply in the importance of friendship and lived by a simple philosophy: "To have good friends, you've got to be a good friend." Those who knew Bob would agree that he embodied those words every day.

Bob is forever in the hearts of his three daughters, Kelly Gleeson Smith (Steve), Jaime Gleeson Estorge (David), and Jenny Gleeson McCollum (Mike); his six beloved grandchildren: Allie (Casey), Anders, Caden, Landon, Luke, and Ben, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. William Gleeson (Carol), and his sister-in-law, Patricia Gleeson. Additionally, his nephews: Mike Gleeson, Joe Gleeson, Zach Roth, and Henry Roth and his nieces: Chris Gleeson Roth (Darin), Dr. Elizabeth Gleeson Johnson (Adam) and Katie Gleeson Welzenbach (Andrew).

Bob's family invites you to a Celebration of Life that will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Minor Park Golf Course, 11215 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131 (casual golf attire encouraged).
