Robert (Bob to friends) our dad was born, 12/29/1937, and raised in Leavenworth, KS. He always loved the outdoors and wildlife. He even had a pet racoon as a young boy. Much of his youth was spent fishing and hunting with his dad. He was a member of his high school Rifle Club in Leavenworth. He and his buddies spent much of their youth building a cabin and hanging out on the Missouri river. They fished and dad learned to waterski on the river.
He was quite the carpenter. After high school he built a fishing boat as well as a ski boat using his own design, not a kit. He also made his own waterskis that his daughter skied on for years.
He met our mom, Georgieanna Owens, on a blind date and married in KCMO in 1962. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Judy. Dad was baptized in 1970 and he and mom were lifelong members if Red Bridge Baptist Church.
He followed in his dad's footstep and was an electrician. He went to Baker University in Baldwin, Ks. He worked at Western Electric in Lee's Summit and retired years after it was bought out by AT&T. After a couple years of retirement he decided to work for Nova Tech in Lenexa, Ks for several years and retired again in 2004.
Dad provided for our family multiple crappie fish fries. And on a funny note, he never let anyone cook in his cast iron skillet. It was reserved for fish frying only. We also enjoyed meals of deer, turkey, pheasant , duck, squirrel and pretty much anything that moved.
Dad's highlight every summer was our family vacation to Table Rock lake for a week of skiing and fishing. We skied our hearts out that week. We also took weekend family tent camping trips to Stockton lake.
Dad's favorite holidays were 4th of July and Thanksgiving. How he enjoyed seeing all the extended family for that one day with lots of food and shooting off fireworks.
Dad was also a good mechanic. During the winter he would repair outboard motors for friends/coworkers. I think it was an excuse to go down to the basement and escape my sister and I's piano practice. He hated when we practiced and asked if our piano teacher would ever teach us anything that sounded decent.
He painted his duck decoys and made all repairs to the house, cars and boats himself. Whatever needed to be done he figured it out-no internet required.
On another sad note-preceding his own death was the loss of his best friend and hunting buddy Roger Bratton. Dad was heart broken after Roger passed and a piece of his heart was buried with him.
Dad we will miss you dearly, as we do mom, but we know you are now with her and our good Lord, that you trusted in for your salvation.
You were a great dad, provider and protector and we never lacked for anything. Dad leaves behind:
Daughters: Cheryl and Judy. Son-in-laws: Rick and Tarq. Grandsons: Matthew, Suresh and Chadd.
