Robert (Bob) Joseph Hartfiel, Jr., 82, died peacefully on April 7 due to complications from a stroke. Bob was born in Kansas City on March 11, 1930 to Robert and Edith Hartfiel. He was a lifelong Kansas City resident. He graduated from Central High School in 1948. After a short stint in the US Navy where he received an honorable medical discharge, he returned to Kansas City to start a life-long career as a machinist. He worked as a machinist for several companies including Westinghouse, Phelps Tool & Die and Lake City Army Ammunition Plant before starting his own company – Hartfiel Tool & Die in the early 60’s.
Bob married Geraldine Summers on March 27, 1954. Bob was an active volunteer in Boy Scouts serving as a unit leader in Troop 469, Tonka/Thunderbird District and Heart of America Council. He attended H Roe Bartle Scout Camp as a leader for 30 years and is a Sagamore in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years. Survivors include a sister, Ann Hartfiel of Sierra Vista, AZ; daughter, Sandra Slahck of Independence, MO; son, Mark Hartfiel (Carolyn) of Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandchildren, Cheryl (Ryan) Fisher, Shelley Slahck (TJ), Aaron and Adam Hartfiel and two great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, April 12 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home with a Mic-O-Say ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Boy Scout Troop 469, 5757 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64133.
