Robert B. Kenschaft

Bob lived a life of travel and adventure, living abroad as part of his military service in Europe and Asia as well as traveling the globe. He lived his life to the fullest and was an avid sportsman and a very accomplished and successful tennis player. He had an infectious smile and could find the humor or bright side in almost anything.

Commissioning as a Medical Service Corps officer in 1967, Bob served 27 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as Colonel. During his tenure he was a hospital and recruiting commander and notably was instrumental in the health care overhaul performed by the Department of Defense in the 1990’s.

After retirement from the military Bob took up youth sports as a coach and then as an official. He could be found umpiring baseball well into his 60’s as well as basketball in the off season. Bob loved the time spent out on the field and being able to give back to the sports community around him, specifically the Blue Valley Recreation Team.

Bob cherished time spent with family and friends. He truly loved his wife Cindy and spoke often of how special she was to him. Bob adored his two grandchildren Emma and Lily who would often call him just to chat on the phone. Bob was a special person to all that knew him and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, son Brett Kenschaft, stepsons Kyle and Reid Thompson, daughter Chemyn Reaney, grandchildren Emma and Lily, and sister Bonnie Miller; he is preceded in death by his mother and father Alice and Roland and his brother Ken.

A memorial service will be held at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fisher House Foundation, a non-profit that assists service members and their families.
