

A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Robert attended Paseo High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas in 1955. A proud veteran, he served his country with honor in the U.S. Army.
Robert leaves behind his devoted partner of 27 years, Ruth, who brought him love and companionship throughout his later years. He is also survived by his loving children, Lori Gay (Mark) Barnes and Robert Todd McLeroy, and his cherished grandchildren, Lance Robert Barnes, Logan Jo Barnes, Lane Sheldon Barnes, Collin Travis McLeroy, and Claire Madeline McLeroy.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Sollie McLeroy Sr. and Berniece McLeroy, as well as his brothers, Bud McLeroy (Judy) and Ronald McLeroy (Carolyn).
An avid outdoorsman, Robert found joy in quail hunting with his beloved dogs, especially his faithful companion, Boy. He was also a dedicated golfer and fisherman, appreciating the peacefulness of nature. A man who enjoyed the finer things in life, he relished a good glass of scotch and the camaraderie of close friends. He was an active member of the Shrine, Kansas City Elks Lodge number 26 and the Royal Order of the Jesters, where he built lifelong friendships and lasting memories.
A successful entrepreneur, Robert, along with his father and brothers, built a thriving gasoline and retail liquor business, and successfully invested in petroleum exploration. His sharp business sense, perseverance, and dedication created a lasting legacy that provided for his family and inspired those around him.
Robert will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He lived life fully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Robert will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A committal service will take place from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Mount Moriah Cemetery, also at 10507 Holmes Road. A reception will be held from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the American Heart Association.
